Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is an entertaining adventure with heart and genuine laughs. Antonio Banderas brings the bravado and arrogance that made him a hit in Shrek 2 and its sequels as well as the spinoff in 2011.

Salma Hayek Pinault, Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman and John Mulaney add to the chemistry as feline exes who form an unlikely friendship. Puss’ cockiness is contrasted with his realization that he may not have many more lives left.

Antonio Banderas

Antonio Banderas – who voices Puss in Boots in the new movie – has appeared in a wide range of films over the years, from the hit Zorro to the Oscar-nominated Pain and Glory. He has also starred in a number of family features.

The cat burglar and his childhood egg-fried Humpty Dumpty reunite to search for a goose that lays golden eggs and save their town. Along the way they’re pursued by a criminal gang led by Goldilocks and the Three Bears, as well as “Big ” Jack Horner who wants the Wishing Star for himself.

The cast also includes Harvey Guillen as Perrito, a dog who disguises himself as a cat to find a place at Mama Luna’s shelter. Florence Pugh, Ray Winstone, Olivia Colman and Samson Kayo round out the rest of the voice cast.

Salma Hayek

After starting out her career with telenovelas like Teresa and Ugly Betty, Hayek has done plenty of movies and television shows. In Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, she voices Kitty Softpaws, the love interest for Antonio Banderas’s character.

Kitty is a skilled swordsman and thief who’s less braggadocious than Puss in Boots. She joins him in search of the wishing star, which can restore his nine lives. They are pursued by a sinister wolf and other fairy tale characters.

John Mulaney

Puss in Boots is the best-loved sidekick of Shrek (alongside Donkey) and he has been around for 18 years now. Antonio Banderas is here to give a quick refresher course on his long-running character’s past adventures in this short clip.

The swashbuckling cat’s reckless disregard for his own nine lives has finally caught up with him, and he finds himself down to his last one. He must journey into the Black Forest to find a mythical Wishing Star to restore his remaining lives. Thankfully, he has help from his partner and rival Kitty Softpaws. This time, she is played by Salma Hayek.

Florence Pugh

Florence Pugh is a young English actress who made a big splash in 2019 with her work in the pastoral horror movie Midsommar and Greta Gerwig’s nuanced adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. She provides the voice of Goldilocks in this latest take on the Puss in Boots franchise.

Eleven years after the release of the original film, DreamWorks Animation is finally back on track with a film like westerns that combines fairy tale and fantasy humor and important life lessons with style and pizzazz. Banderas’ silky-voiced performance as the swashbuckling feline is unmissable. He is joined by Salma Hayek Pinault as street-savvy Kitty Softpaws and Harvey Guillen (What We Do in the Shadows) as Perro, his cheery canine associate.

Ray Winstone

The Last Wish is a fun adventure that dives deep into Puss in Boots’ backstory. Its a movie that’s full of heart, genuine laughs and clever writing.

Winstone had already made his mark with a number of British TV shows, including violent borstal boys in Alan Clarke’s Scum and gangsters in the mods-and-rockers drama Quadrophenia. He also played an alcoholic wife-beater in the TV series Mr Thomas, and had roles in a handful of gentler comedies, including Fanny and Elvis and That Summer.

He specialized in hard men with intriguing chinks in their armour, and neatly side-stepped typecasting. He appeared in several British films, from historical drama to American blockbusters and rough British realist grit.

Olivia Colman

After earning praise and an Oscar nomination for her role as a divorced professor in Florian Zeller’s The Father (2020), British actress Olivia Colman is back with another big movie. She is also a regular at the major award ceremonies.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a fun adventure with a lot of heart and genuine laughs. It also reveals the more serious side of Puss in Boots as he struggles with his fear of death. This is a great film to watch with your children and discuss values like teamwork, selflessness and bravery. The movie also explores the concept that violence isn’t always the answer to problems.

Samson Kayo

Puss in Boots is down to his last wish and desperate to find the mythical wishing star that will restore his nine lives. With the help of his kitty partner, Kitty Softpaws, he sets out to find the star along with a host of adversaries including the Three Bears Crime Family and Jack Horner. The film provides plenty of heart and genuine laughs.

Samson Kayo is a BAFTA-nominated actor and writer known for his roles in BBC3 comedy Famalam, and ITV2 comedy Timewasters. He has also appeared in Drunk History, The Javone Prince Show, and Static. This is his first role in a feature-length film. He is a rising talent in the world of voice acting.

Harvey Guillen

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is the second standalone spinoff film from the Shrek franchise. The movie stars Antonio Banderas as Puss and Salma Hayek as Kitty Softpaws in an adventure to find the mythical Wishing Star to restore their lost lives.

The swashbuckling feline discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have cost him eight of his nine lives and must come to terms with mortality. He and Kitty enlist the help of their friends to find the Wishing Star, while the crime family from Goldilocks and the Three Bears (Colman, Winstone, Kayo) and Laura’s Big Bad Wolf are hot on their tails.
